Astronomers put forward new theory on size of black holes

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Astronomers have put forward a new theory about why black holes become so hugely massive ? claiming some of them have no 'table manners', and tip their 'food' directly into their mouths, eating more than one course simultaneously.

Researchers from the UK and Australia investigated how some black holes grow so fast that they are billions of times heavier than the sun.

The team from the University of Leicester (UK) and Monash University in Australia sought to establish how black holes got so big so fast. Their research is due to published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

The research was funded by the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council.

Professor Andrew King from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leicester, said: "Almost every galaxy has an enormously massive black hole in its centre. Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, has one about four million times heavier than the sun. But some galaxies have black holes a thousand times heavier still. We know they grew very quickly after the Big Bang.''

"These hugely massive black holes were already full--grown when the universe was very young, less than a tenth of its present age."

Black holes grow by sucking in gas. This forms a disc around the hole and spirals in, but usually so slowly that the holes could not have grown to these huge masses in the entire age of the universe. `We needed a faster mechanism,' says Chris Nixon, also at Leicester, "so we wondered what would happen if gas came in from different directions."

Nixon, King and their colleague Daniel Price in Australia made a computer simulation of two gas discs orbiting a black hole at different angles. After a short time the discs spread and collide, and large amounts of gas fall into the hole. According to their calculations black holes can grow 1,000 times faster when this happens.

"If two guys ride motorbikes on a Wall of Death and they collide, they lose the centrifugal force holding them to the walls and fall," says King. The same thing happens to the gas in these discs, and it falls in towards the hole.

This may explain how these black holes got so big so fast. "We don't know exactly how gas flows inside galaxies in the early universe," said King, "but I think it is very promising that if the flows are chaotic it is very easy for the black hole to feed."

The two biggest black holes ever discovered are each about ten billion times bigger than the Sun.

Living by the Non-Billable Marketing Hour | Business 2 Community

Smart Time Tracking can be a Professional Services Firm?s Strategic Weapon

For many professional services providers ? including those specializing in accounting, law, engineering, architecture and consulting ? tracking time is a way of life.? There are two major time buckets ? billable and non-billable.? Billable time is client work and there are usually specific client codes and sub-codes for active client projects.? There is always a great deal of attention placed on tracking billable time and rightly so ? that is what pays the bills!

From Marketing Junkyard?

From my experience as a client services professional, in-house professional services marketer and now marketing consultant to professional services firms, non-billable marketing time codes are a lot like junk yards.? Marketing, business development, non-chargeable client work such as travel and even administrative tasks are dumped in the non-billable marketing pile.? Some may argue that this time is non-revenue producing, and why should coding matter?? Trash is trash, after all.

?To Marketing Treasure

Well, some firm?s trash can be another?s treasure ? savvy professional services firms can transform their non-billable marketing junkyards into plush fields blooming with valuable business intelligence. ?As an example, instead of having one code for all marketing time, try dividing the time up into sub-codes by your firm?s target markets.? This structure would enable the COO, CMO and/or Managing Partner to see your firm?s time investment in a particular sector and compare it against the return such as new clients and increased revenue. ?I?ve worked with many clients to restructure their marketing time tracking systems.? We often discover that there is a measurable opportunity cost involved with investing too much professional time marketing to one segment at the expense of another that produces a higher ROI.

For hard-core time trackers looking to gain even further knowledge from their non-billable marketing time, I recommend additional sub-coding as follows:

  • Marketing Admin:? This sub-code might include time spent in internal marketing meetings and discussions.
  • Marketing Business Development:? This sub-code would represent networking activities, face-to-face meetings with referrals sources and prospective clients.
  • Marketing Activities:? This sub-code might include writing articles or blogs, speaking, and posting on social media platforms such as LinkedIn.

What management will glean through analyzing non-billable marketing time sub-codes like the ones noted above is how much time is spent ?behind the desk? versus ?shaking hands.?? Successful professional services marketing programs typically strike a balance between the two.? Ultimately, people do business with people they know, like and trust and so nothing replaces ?face time.?? If most of a firm?s professional marketing time is spent on ?Marketing Admin? or ?Marketing Activities? at the expense of ?Marketing /Business Development,? it may experience high brand awareness but maintain a relatively empty sales funnel.

There is a fine balance between smart time tracking and creating an unnecessary headache for busy billable professionals.? But for firms that truly invest time and hard dollars into proactive marketing, creating some level of specificity in coding non-billable marketing time just makes good business sense.? The information gained could truly transform your time into treasure.

Power Plants: Could a Rechargeable Battery Be Made from Paper and Pulp By-Products?

News | Technology

Experimenting with plant lignin as a replacement for lithium and other metals, scientists create a rechargeable battery--but much work lies ahead to translate it into a usable power source

Despite decades of predictions that a fully electronic, paperless society is almost upon us, we still live in a world populated with printed documents. This insatiable demand for plant cellulose?based writing and packaging materials may end up having a silver lining: a component for a new type of low-cost, Earth-friendly rechargeable battery.

Researchers Grzegorz Milczarek from Poznan University of Technology in Poland and Olle Ingan?s from Link?ping University in Sweden, have combined a polymer with a waste material from the paper and pulp industry to create a new kind of battery cathode, which today are mostly made from nonrenewable metals such as lithium or cobalt. Specifically, Milczarek and Ingan?s used lignin, an organic substance binding the cells, fibers and vessels that make up wood. Plants are made up of as much as 30 percent lignin, is the second-most abundant renewable carbon source on the planet after cellulose, according to the International Lignin Institute in Switzerland. Each year, paper processing generates between 35 million and 45 million metric tons of a dark waste product known as brown liquor, which is rich in lignin derivatives.

Most batteries consist of electrochemical cells with two electrodes?an anode and a cathode?and are filled with an electrolyte. The aggregate effect of the chemical reactions taking place within the electrolyte creates a flow of electrons between the anode and the cathode, resulting in the discharge of electricity.

Milczarek and Ingan?s combined lignin derivatives with a polymer known as "polypyrrole" to make their test cathodes, which varied in thickness. The insulating qualities of lignin derivatives combined with the conductivity of polypyrrole create a composite material that effectively holds an electric charge, according to the scientists, whose research appears in the March 23 issue of Science.

The inspiration for the research came from the process plants use to convert light energy to stored chemical energy. In photosynthesis, electrochemically active molecules known as quinones transport electrons and protons, Ingan?s explains. Animals also make use of quinones in metabolism, "to build the pH gradient which drives synthesis of ATP, or adenosine triphosphate," he adds. If nature could create such a renewable metabolic process, the professor of biomolecular and organic electronics reasons, why not consider it as the basis for charge storage in a renewable system?

The researchers have much work ahead of them, and Ingan?s cautions that it is premature to compare their prototype battery system with inorganic two-electrode batteries fabricated with metals. "There are many things to do in order to improve the charge density of the electrode, which is what we are doing now," Ingan?s says.

The biggest disadvantage to the proposed approach, however, is that the electrodes lose their charge within hours when they are idle. The researchers hope that different types of lignin derivatives could solve the problem. Given the diversity of plant life on this planet, there is no shortage of samples for the researchers to study.

Romney pushes GOP presidential race toward a close

(AP) ? Mitt Romney says he's "almost there" in his six-year pursuit of the Republican presidential nomination after defeating Rick Santorum in the Illinois GOP primary.

"Tonight's win means we are that much closer to securing the nomination, uniting our party, and taking on President Obama," the Republican front-runner wrote in a campaign email sent late Tuesday.

He urged the party to fall in line behind his bid, saying, "We are almost there."

The former Massachusetts governor and his allies spent hundreds of thousands of dollars more than Santorum and his backers in Illinois, and it showed in the results: Romney was beating Santorum by 47 percent to 35 percent.

Romney was the clear favorite among Illinois Republicans who were most concerned about picking someone who is capable of taking on President Barack Obama in the fall. Romney's wife, Ann, suggested earlier this week that it was time for the party to coalesce behind him. And in an appeal to the centrist independents who will decide the general election, Romney pledged Tuesday to work with Democrats or "die trying."

"Tonight was a primary, but November is a general election. And we're going to face a defining decision as a people," Romney said during a victory speech to supporters. "We know what Barack Obama's vision is. We've been living it these last three years. My vision is very, very different."

Romney picked up at least 41 delegates in Illinois, according to initial results, adding to his delegate lead and making it that much harder for any of his rivals to catch him.

Still, Romney could face defeat in some Southern states.

Santorum, who hopes to rebound Saturday in the Louisiana primary, sounded like anything but a defeated contender Tuesday night as he spoke to supporters in Gettysburg, Pa. He said he had outpolled Romney in downstate Illinois and the areas "that conservatives and Republicans populate."

"We're very happy about that and we're happy about the delegates we're going to get, too," he said before invoking Illinois-born Republican icon Ronald Reagan, the actor turned president. "Saddle up, like Reagan did in the cowboy movies."

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich didn't speak to supporters Tuesday, instead putting out a written statement. Texas Rep. Ron Paul has yet to win a state.

Romney triumphed in Illinois after benefitting from a crushing 7-1 advantage in the television advertising wars, and as his chief rival struggled to overcome self-imposed political wounds in the marathon race to pick an opponent to Obama.

Most recently, Santorum backpedaled after saying Monday that the economy wasn't the main issue of the campaign. "Occasionally you say some things where you wish you had a do-over," he said later.

Romney has 563 delegates in the overall count maintained by The Associated Press, out of 1,144 needed to win the nomination. Santorum has 263 delegates, Gingrich 135 and Paul 50.

After the Louisiana primary, a 10-day break follows before Washington, D.C., Maryland and Wisconsin hold primaries on April 3.

Santorum is not on the ballot in the nation's capital. Private polling shows Romney with an advantage in Maryland, and the pro-Romney super PAC Restore Our Future launched a television ad campaign in the state during the day at a cost of more than $450,000.

Wisconsin shapes up as the next big test between Romney and Santorum. Republican politics there have been roiled recently by a controversy involving a recall battle against the governor and some GOP state senators who supported legislation that was bitterly opposed by labor unions.

Already, Restore Our Future has put down more than $2 million in television advertising across Wisconsin. Santorum has spent about $50,000 to answer.

Neither Gingrich nor Paul campaigned extensively in Illinois. Gingrich has faded into near-irrelevance in the race, but he remains defiant.

"To defeat Barack Obama, Republicans can't nominate a candidate who relies on outspending his opponents 7-1," he said in a statement Tuesday night. "Instead, we need a nominee who offers powerful solutions that hold the president accountable for his failures."

Gingrich said his campaign will spend the time leading to the party convention "relentlessly taking the fight to President Obama."

Stocks retreat from 4-year high on China fears

By msnbc.com news services

Stocks retreated from a near 4-year high on Tuesday on signs that indicated China's economy may be slowing.

Weighing on both the equities and commodities markets, China raised fuel prices for the second time in less than six weeks, while BHP Billiton Ltd, the world's largest mining company, said it saw signs of "flattening" iron-ore demand from the world's second-biggest economy.

But even with the S&P 500 up 12 percent for the year, market participants viewed the day's drop as a chance to take a breather before moving higher.

"Do I think we are due for a pullback? Yes. Do I think this is the start of a pullback? No," said Mike Shea, managing partner and trader at Direct Access Partners in New York.

"The news out of China caused everyone to look up and take a breath, but the sentiment hasn't changed. It's still bullish."

Before Tuesday, the S&P 500 index was at its highest point since May 2008 and about 10 percent below the record closing high of 1,565.15 set in October 2007.

The market has been showing resilience, shrugging off sluggish starts and building upward momentum later in the session to close higher.

Easing concerns about the euro zone's debt crisis and improving U.S. economic data have lifted the S&P 500 more than 11 percent for the year and over 27 percent from an October low.

Permits for U.S. homebuilding neared a 3-1/2 year high in February, even as groundbreaking activity slipped, the government said Tuesday, suggesting a nascent recovery in the sector was still on track.

Shares of Tiffany and Co jumped after the jewelry chain forecast higher sales this year, helped by expansion in Asia and the Americas.

Adobe Systems Inc was the worst percentage decliner in the Nasdaq 100. The maker of Photoshop and Acrobat software late Monday reported that quarterly revenue growth slowed, missing forecasts.

Apple shares dipped after an influential U.S. consumer watchdog said it is investigating online reports that Apple Inc's new iPad throws off an unusually large amount of heat.

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp shares hit an all-time high of $14.78 before the release of its highly anticipated movie, "The Hunger Games."

Reuters contributed to this report.

Super busy SXSW wraps up with poignant moment

(AP) ? Stars of all stripes and celebrity hit town to close out South By Southwest, but it was a marching band that stole the show Saturday.

Members of the Austin High band watched their star turn in the premiere of filmmaker Emmett Malloy's "Big Easy Express," then joined documentary subjects Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes and Old Crow Medicine Show in an outdoor concert at the University of Texas as the music conference fell into an exhausted heap on its final night.

Across town, Timbaland held a listening party at Perez Hilton's annual to-do. Norah Jones played her new album for an appreciative group of fans. Matthew McConaughey joined The Cult during a free concert. Punk rock icon Bob Mould played "Copper Blue" in its entirety, bringing out the graybeards. And Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. joined The Posies and Blitzen Trapper in one final tribute to Big Star frontman Alex Chilton, who passed away two years ago as he was due to participate in SXSW.

Rumors of celebrity appearances swirled up and down Sixth Street, but few of them materialized as St. Patrick's Day revelers clogged downtown Austin in a frenzy of partying that didn't end till 2 a.m. last call.

Superstars such as Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z, Eminem and others made this the busiest SXSW ever, overflowing with celebrity, secret performances and high-dollar endorsements that made sure the festival looked nothing like the humble event that started 25 years ago with just 200 bands spread over 12 clubs. With so much going on and plenty of places to get hammered on green beer, even the usually most exclusive events were easy to get into.

It took a bumpin' tuba line and a bunch of enthusiastic high school kids to shake off the glitzy veneer that had many longtime festival participants grumbling about the good old days and inject a little innocent joy back into the conference.

With the UT Tower lit up in the background, the band took the stage, then laid down a rolling groove before joining Mumford & Sons on "The Cave," recreating a powerful moment from "Big Easy Express" in front of thousands of fans on the lawn at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library.

"That's real music, ladies and gentlemen," Marcus Mumford told the crowd after the song. "That's real music from real people."

Afterwards fans surrounded marching band members on the street and chanted: "One more song! One more song!"

The love of making music and the community brought by close collaboration were the dominant themes of "Big Easy Express," which made its world premiere earlier in the day at the Paramount Theatre, then was replayed for the crowd before the night's concert.

Malloy follows the three bands as they made a train trip from California to New Orleans via Austin. They covered 2,500 miles in a week and a half, playing music almost every step of the way and enlisting Austin High to join the fun in one of the film's most delightful moments.

"Very few people have seen this film," said Malloy, whose previous credits include The White Stripes 2009 documentary "Under Great White Northern Lights." ''But the ones who have, everyone says they're very jealous that they weren't on (the train). They want to quit their day job and go be a freak. And I think the fact that this film evokes that kind of like, 'I want to get in touch with my wild side' is great. It's more emotional than I would've ever thought, and the fact that I was able to work with everything those guys were doing those days and create a little bit of an emotional journey, that put this film in a very special place."

The film is full of poignant moments as the bands bond in close quarters, jamming on each other's songs, writing new ones and taking old standards and making them new.

"We got on the train and you guys were just setting the tone, really playing music nonstop," said Alex Ebert, nodding to Mumford and OCMS member Gill Landry during a red carpet interview before the premiere. "It was a really powerful experience and one we jumped into probably willingly and happily. But I mean in that sense that's what we took away the most ? the preparedness, willingness and effort to constantly play music."

Over at Hilton's party, producer Timbaland took the stage after a long absence from the spotlight.

"I know you been missing me for a while," he said.

Timbaland bragged on his own group of favorite collaborators, saying that collaborator Dev was now a member of his "Superfriends" before launching into his latest single, "Break Ya Back," from his forthcoming album "Shock Value III." He also rapped and beat-boxed over abbreviated versions of some of his best-known songs.

"I don't know if I can get off the stage," he said. "I've got too many hits."

Palestinians, Israel negotiate revenue collection

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - The Palestinian Authority and Israel are holding economic talks despite frozen peace negotiations in a bid to revamp revenue collection and help relieve the Palestinian government's deepening debt crisis, officials said on Sunday.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967 and interim peace deals have tasked it with levying taxes and customs duties on the Palestinian Authority's behalf, amounting to around $100 million a month, on goods imported into the territories.

However, it has previously frozen payments to the Palestinian government during times of heightened security and diplomatic tensions, provoking strong international criticism.

"There are still difficulties, but I hope that we will be able to reach an agreement soon ... both for the benefit of the Palestinian Authority and for the benefit of the state of Israel," Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz told reporters on Sunday, declining to discuss details of the meetings he described as secret.

Measures now under discussion include developing electronic records of imported goods, enabling Palestinian officials to directly monitor the flow of goods and follow up on instances of tax evasion, which could in turn generate more revenue, Palestinian officials said.

The Palestinian government in the occupied West Bank is reeling from a sharp drop in foreign aid following its unilateral campaign for statehood at the United Nations last year. It hopes increased tax revenue could help prevent cuts to public salaries and social benefits.

The talks are aimed specifically at overhauling the "Paris Protocol", signed in 1994 under which Israel collects taxes and customs for the Palestinian Authority.

"Israel has killed the Paris economic agreement through security measures and closures, and by preventing freedom of movement," Mohammed Shtayyeh, a member of the Palestinian negotiating delegation told Reuters.

"The Palestinian Authority must have sovereignty over its territory."

Talks on a permanent peace agreement leading to Palestinian statehood stalled in 2010 in a dispute over Israeli settlement building in the West Bank.

NO PEACE BREAKTHROUGH

However, the economic deliberations should not be seen as a breakthrough that could lead to renewed peace negotiations, the Palestinians said.

"The Israelis are trying to exaggerate the issue in order to cover up a diplomatic stalemate and deadlocked peace process," Ahmed Majdalani, Minister of Agriculture and Labour told Palestinian radio.

The talks come as the Palestinian Authority's draft annual budget, required by law to be finalized by the end of March, paints a grim picture of the government's finances.

In a report released on Saturday, the International Monetary Fund projected that if donor countries continued to withhold promised aid, and if last year's budget deficit of $1.1 billion were to recur this year, the PA would find itself with a budget shortfall of $500 million.

Citing commitments to rein in expenditures and put forward a leaner budget, Palestinian officials foresee a $950 million total deficit and $330 million financial gap, still a vast sum which is generating deep concern.

"The Palestinian government has made great efforts to control public spending this year but cannot hope to fill a gap this huge," Majdalani said.

Gilbert Bankruptcy Lawyers Provide Assistance With Your Financial ...

When it comes to your finances, bankruptcy is probably the last word you ever want to hear. Seen by some people as the nuclear option of economics, it?s a scary idea. However, with all of the information out there it?s common to see bankruptcyportrayed as both the absolute end of your ability to get credit, and as a get out of debt free card that you can use whenever times get tough. The truth is somewhere in the middle of the road, and if you?re going to declare bankruptcy in Arizona you might want to seek out the aid ofGilbert bankruptcy lawyers.

Bankruptcy is a legal process, first of all. Chiefly, you are giving the opportunity for you and your creditors to be able to work out your differences in court. This means that no twobankruptcy cases are alike, and that each one is going to vary based on the income of the person involved, the amount of debt owed, the credit of the bankruptcy applicant and dozens of other factors. Much as it would be dangerous for a person who is accused of murder to represent himself in court due to inexperience, it would also be risky for you to file for bankruptcy without the guidance of a reliable bankruptcy lawyer.

Bankruptcy lawyers have the background that they would use to help you understand the jargon of the legal process giving you the inside scoop. This would be a good deal especially for those who have no background whatsoever regarding courtroom situations and the amount of paperwork involved. A good bankruptcy attorney can streamline the whole process and argue on your behalf with knowledge and expertise that you don?t possess in order to make sure that you get the most advantageous situation possible when it comes to yourbankruptcy case.

It is important that you are sure filing for Arizona bankruptcy is the angle you want to pursue regarding your financial situation. Before actually filing for bankruptcy, you might need to speak with an attorney to check whether you have the necessary documents and evidence required to pursue one. There is an accompanying black mark against your credit score that would make it difficult for you in the future to get credit. There are other options that a lawyer might suggest for you to take in case he sees that you could do well without having the stigma of bankruptcy associated with you.

Teri Hatcher sues ex-employee over stolen email

Donato Sardella / Getty Images Contributor

Was Teri Hatcher the victim of a former employee?

?

By Natalie Finn, E! Online

Is Teri Hatcher a hacking victim, too ?!

The "Desperate Housewives" star has sued a former employee, claiming the woman copied thousands of emails from Hatcher's computer.

And this plot line is worthy of any nighttime soap. Jennifer Glassman, the ex-staffer, had already sued Hatcher for supposedly offering her a partnership at her production company and then unceremoniously firing her a bit later after running her ragged.

But what sort of stuff could Glassman find out about her then-boss by reading emails her computer contained?

MORE: Nicollette Sheridan called Teri Hatcher the "meanest woman in the world"?!

Hatcher claims, in court documents filed March 7 and obtained by E! News, that those letters contained details about her health and personal relationships, as well as work-related emails that detailed different opportunities she was considering beyond "Desperate Housewives."

The show, which has been overshadowed the last few weeks by the almost-over legal battle between former star Nicollette Sheridan and ABC Entertainment (and Marc Cherry, before the judge dismissed Sheridan's battery charge against him), signs off May 13 after eight seasons.

Hatcher's complaint states that Glassman came to work for her ISBE Productions in 2006 as a contracted consultant and Disney opted to bring her on exclusively to work for Hatcher's company the following year -- which, the suit states, required Glassman to sign a confidentiality agreement.

GALLERY: "Desperate Housewives'" OMG moments

The actress maintains that Glassman resigned from her position in February 2010, requesting that she get a severance package and maintain "only a personal relationship and not a business relationship" with Hatcher.

Two Turkish journalists 'missing in Syria'

Two Turkish journalists have disappeared in neighbouring Syria, an Istanbul-based newspaper said Wednesday, asking Damascus and Ankara for help to find them.

The newspaper Milat said in a statement it had not had contact with journalist and writer Adem Ozkose and cameraman Hamit Coskun for five days.

Milat said the two called the newspaper on March 9 and said they were in the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib near the Turkish border, a rebel holdout which has now been overrun by the Syrian army.

Syrian forces seized control of Idlib after a four-day assault, two weeks after they stormed the Baba Amr district in the central city of Homs following a month-long attack that activists said left hundreds dead.

The two journalists had travelled to Idlib to cover the deadly violence across the border and shoot a documentary, local media reported.

Ozkose works for Milat while Coskun is believed to be a freelance cameraman.

"Aid volunteers and civilians should not be harmed in any part of the world. We are worried about the lives of our colleagues," Milat said.

"We expect an urgent statement from Syrian authorities" about the crew's whereabouts, it said, adding that it was also seeking help from Turkish foreign ministry officials to locate the two.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said his ministry was exerting "intensive efforts" to find the missing journalists, NTV television reported.

"The humanitarian situation is deteriorating in Syria," he said, and warned Turkish citizens to be "extremely careful" if they travel to the neighbouring country after the latest crackdown by the Damascus regime.

Two foreign journalists were killed and two wounded in the shelling of Homs last month.

Super Foods....Smoothies and Spinach Salads

After running this weekend, I decided to make some healthy lunch/snack items to eat so I will get strong and awesome.

Ever since my first job as a smoothie maker at Creative Juices when I was 16, I have been obsessed with smoothies.? There is an art to it.? I recently decided that buying frozen fruit is expensive.? So instead I have been buying a can of crushed pineapple and then freezing it in individual sandwich bags to use in my smoothies.? It works very well and since the pineapple is crushed, you don't get big chunks in your smoothie.? The key to smoothie making is making sure you have blended everything together perfectly.? Feel free to take the?blender cup off the blender and shake it around if things aren't blending properly. ?Chunks are bad.? Your smoothie is done blending when your smoothie spins around in a circle that dips into the middle (while the blender is still going).? Like the bottom of the blender is sucking down your smoothie in a circular motion.? You will know it when you see it.? Trust me.? OK onward.

Women's Health Smoothie....
-1 small container of vanilla yogurt (6-8 oz)
-a splash of cranberry juice (or any juice really)
-1/3 of a frozen banana
-1/5 of a can of crushed pineapple (frozen in little plastic baggies, throw away bag though, don't blend)

Blend it up until it's smooth (see above) and drink it out of a?beer glass (if you want to and you have a bunch of beer glasses).? Good stuff.

Then I decided to make a spinach quinoa salad.? Spinach is a super food and all.? The key to this salad is this......

Jarred grilled veggies.? You can get these at Harris Teeter (in a smaller jar, near the canned vegetables, might be roasted instead of grilled) or at Costco in this giant jar that I have.? This jar has zucchini, red peppers, eggplant and artichokes in a vinegar and oil mix.

Power Salad

-cooked quinoa

-jarred?grilled?veggies

-balsamic vinaigrette (whisk canola or olive oil, a spoonful of mustard, a spoonful of honey, and some balsamic vinegar together-just add stuff until you like the taste and consistency or just mix any oil and vinegar together to get some sort of dressing to mix in)

-bag of baby spinach

Mix the cooked quinoa with some of the chopped veggies (add in some of the oil from the jar of vegetables for extra flavor) and then add some vinaigrette.? Then get a large bowl of baby spinach and add some of the quinoa mixture to the top.? Mix it so that the spinach gets coated with the quinoa vinaigrette mix.? Good stuff.

If you make and eat these two recipes you will grow up to be healthy and strong.? Probably.? Maybe.?

Do you like spinach salads and smoothies?

What do you eat that makes you feel healthy?
